Inference Methods for Interaction and Noise Intensities Using Only Spike-time Data on Coupled Oscillators

چکیده
Abstract We propose theoretical methods to infer coupling strength and noise intensity simultaneously through an observation of spike timing in two well-synchronized noisy oscillators. A phase oscillator model is applied to derive formulae relating each of the parameters to some statistics from spiketime data. Using these formulae, each parameter is inferred from a specific set of statistics. We demonstrate the methods with the FitzHugh-Nagumo model as well as the phase model. Our methods do not require any external perturbation and thus are ready for application to various experimental systems.

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions
In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...
متن کاملDynamical Bayesian inference of time-evolving interactions: from a pair of coupled oscillators to networks of oscillators.
Living systems have time-evolving interactions that, until recently, could not be identified accurately from recorded time series in the presence of noise. Stankovski et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 024101 (2012)] introduced a method based on dynamical Bayesian inference that facilitates the simultaneous detection of time-varying synchronization, directionality of influence, and coupling function...
متن کاملThe Transient Behavior of LC and Ring Oscillators under External Frequency Injection
In this work, time domain analysis is used to solve Adler’s equation in order to obtain the required time, for an oscillator under external injection, reaching the steady-state condition. Mathematical approach has been applied to fully describe the transient of frequency acquisition in injection-locked LC and Ring oscillators considering their time-varying nature. Then, the analysis is verifie...
متن کاملSynchronization in Networks of Coupled Harmonic Oscillators with Stochastic Perturbation and Time Delays
In this paper, we investigate synchronization of coupled second-order linear harmonic oscillators with random noises and time delays. The interaction topology is modeled by a weighted directed graph and the weights are perturbed by white noise. On the basis of stability theory of stochastic differential delay equations, algebraic graph theory and matrix theory, we show that the coupled harmonic...
متن کاملStochastic Phase Dynamics in Neuron Models and Spike Time Reliability
The present thesis is concerned with the stochastic phase dynamics of neuron models and spike time reliability. It is well known that noise exists in all natural systems, and some beneficial effects of noise, such as coherence resonance and noise-induced synchrony, have been observed. However, it is usually difficult to separate the effect of the nonlinear system itself from the effect of noise...
